Colour indicates severity of the bug. If conditions for a red bug are reached, the game will crash. Orange bugs affect gameplay but do not destroy the game. Black bugs are minor limitations or quirks. All bugs on this page, unless otherwise indicated, were documented by Seth C. Triggs, author of this page.

• Game will crash when leaving a train window open when the train is sent to depot. [Rectified in 0.75]
• Trains will "collapse" if they stop before a red signal on a curve. Avoid using signals on curves. [me/Hajo] [Somewhat rectified in 0.74e]
• A train leaving a depot with any kind of signal in front of it will stall at the signal, and must be sent back to depot, *not* anywhere else. If the train is sent anywhere else, there is a high possibility of the locomotive and cars seperating and ruining operation of the entire rail line. You can see if this begins to happen if a carriage appears to be in front of the locomotive. [Similar result with a different cause - picture] SOLUTION: Always build enough distance between the depot and a signal for the entire train - the safe distance is 7 squares, since your trains won't get that long.
• When removing a signal, the track in both directions for some distance must be removed and resignalled. This can be done by placing new signals to "reset" the block. [Hajo]
• Roads with cars on them cannot be removed. Similarly, you cannot place a bus stop on a road with a car on it, or any kind of intersection or curve. (formerly, this would have been a red bug, if a road segment with a yellow car on it was deleted, the game would crash immediately.)
• The little yellow cars cannot travel on bridges or in tunnels.
• Bridges cannot be built without a ramp. (This can be seen in some savegames) The terrain must be built up at each end of the bridge in order for it to be built, and the road or railroad must "hang" over the edge of the hill.
• If you have signalling problems, try this:
Press "b" on the keyboard.
The landscape pointer shoul turn into a signal pair.
Click one of the mis-signalled railroad blocks.
The signals should be turn green (or read if the block is used).

Basically this tool was implemented to repair railroad networks after disasters. There are no disasters in the game yet, but the block repair tool works. [Hajo]

• Docks can't be removed properly. [Hajo] [Rectified]
• Most windows can be opened multiple times, some of them shouldn't — i.e. language choice, display settings ... [Hajo] [Rectified]
• It is possible to build railroad stations on enemy railroad tracks. [Hajo][Rectified]
• It is possible to build mail offices on roads ... this leads to cars driving through mail offices. [Hajo][Rectified]
• The AI does not build depots for its vehicles. This is just a cosmetic problem by now, and doesn't affect gameplay. [Hajo]
• The city info window is far from being self explanatory. It is incomplete also. (currently is a population counter and two maps which appear to be density (demand) maps [Hajo]
• The vehicle scheduling UI may not always work correctly. [Hajo][Rectified]
• Number of connected industries or stops (indicated with a yellow "Halt" sign) is limited to 16. However, scheduling vehicles in such a manner is an unwieldy process, and can generally be avoided in the course of play. Exceeding this limit may cause the game to crash. [Hajo/Me]
• Game speed deteriorates noticeably with larger maps, more cities, and more industries. (Speed is inversely related to features on a map.)
• When building signals and new tracks on a line where a train is already running, the train will get disturbed and carriage order will shift.[Rectified] [Peter Dobrovka]

Note: As far as known, it is safe to add signals to empty blocks (no trains) and add track to empty blocks. [Somewhat rectified in 0.74e]
• It has been known that a mail office can be built on top of another building under construction, quite by accident. Attempting to demolish the building crashes the game. [Peter Dobrovka][Rectified]
• Problem with buses visiting a station twice on a schedule: It is possible to have a bus visit a station twice, because schedules loop. There can only be one "Halt" sign per stop. All schedules naturally loop, however, so the stop at the beginning of your schedule will be the last. Here's a more detailed explanation from the author, Hajo.
"You can select the same station two times. But there has to be another station between the first and the second selection. (i.e. if you have three stations A, B, C and want to make your bus go A,B,C,B,A then click A,B,C,B,B. The second click on B will finish the schedule. Because schedules are looped, the bus will go A,B,C,B,A in and endless loop." (Hajo)
• Buses have been known to stall for unknown reasons, and in version 74b, you cannot click on a bus stuck in a depot, and it will remain there forever. This may be due to a change in route. (road segment disappearing, etc.) In some cases, it may slow down your buses which use that route, where the function for stopping behind a stopped vehicle is triggered.[Rectified]
• Signalling is tricky, the cursor does not quite move over the signal position in question. Usually, if you are creating a one-way signal, you have to do it in one go, and it is difficult to change signals over later. Also, changing signals on active lines is rather dangerous, as outlined above. It is possible to crash a game when trying to repair signals, be careful and save beforehand. • When loading a savegame in Simu, and your loaded map is smaller than the current map, the view loads over the sea (basically not in the last viewed area). This seems to be near the upper left corner. [Pasi][Rectified]
• Duplicate town names are present. This may cause some logistic confusion on the part of the player.[Rectified]
• Passengers and cargo accumulate much too rapidly, especially on routes only served by buses. More vehicles must be used, and thus it slows down the game. [Picture] [Picture 2][Rectified]
• If a game is excessively large, or you have many vehicles and buildings and cities, upon loading the savegame, Simu will crash.[Rectified]
• If you build a bus stop over the opponent's road and remove it, Simutrans crashes. [Pasi][Rectified]
• Never stop trains in a curve! The trains sometimes gets stuck there when stopped. Placing signals in curves seems to be safe though. [Hajo][Rectified]
• Never give a train a schedule with only one stop if not going to a depot. A schedule with one stop is only valid if sending the train to a train depot. In any other case schedules should contain two stops or more. This can cause the train to stick. [Hajo]
• Inspecting ship docks opens two information windows instead of one: One for the dock building itself, and on for the ship stop at the dock. [Hajo][Rectified]
• Don't use more than one trailer with a truck. The game doesn't check this, but only one trailer is supported. There is also a high probability that the extra trailer will cause the truck to jam up the truck stop, rendering it useless.[Rectified]
• Trains would crash the game if built with more than 13 units. [Rectified]
• Mail offices located in a developed area will be taken over by a regular building. This apparently does not have any effect on the station's ability to transfer mail.[Rectified] (related to next bug)
• Little blue buildings that look like mail offices (in fact, the same default graphic) that seem to spring up all over the downtown areas of cities are in fact not mail offices. They are other buildings, and their prices and passenger generation capacity seem to explode. (I've seen 66% passengers and 33000 credits at some times.) And there are many of them. Don't delete them or you'll be out of a lot of cash. It should be noted that one of these little buildings near your station will likely increase the passenger output to a point you can't handle. A related bug was where two train depots appeared next to each other, when they were not connected to any track. This was actually a fatal error with building arrays in the game. It has been fixed.. • Sometimes the little yellow cars get stuck in a right-angle curve similar to the ones in this particular example. The cars will dart back and forth, which is rather odd. To remedy this, demolish a building nearby and realign the road, the car will be set free and join the rest of its flock. [Picture]
• The curved road graphic only appears behind (north of) town halls. Any other curved, paved intersection will look like two intersections.[Rectified]
• Many objects are routinely lost in the game, and the game searches for them when this happens. This will eventually slow down the game. [Rectified]
• There are corrupted buildings in the game that will "smear" the map whenever you scroll or a car or other vehicle drives over it. The same is true for the reef graphics around the edge of every map. [Rectified]
• Building railway track through the abutments of a railway bridge will cause a crash, where the block structure will not be able to recover.[Hajo]
• Never stop a train while passing a signal. Never make it turn while passing a asignal. In both cases the wagon counters of all rail blocks adjactant to this signal are set to wrong values. Sometimes the Block correction tool (Hotkey "b") can solve this, but sometimes the train is just stuck there.[Hajo]
• Never stop vehicles on bridges. Either the vehicle is stuck on the bridge, or it will fall through the bridge, if there is a road or railroad track below. Even worse things might happen.[Hajo]
• Never stop vehicles in tunnels. Tunnels have the problems as bridges.
